Are we the turning point generation?

I had to borrow the title of Chude Jideonwo's soon to be released book for this post. I hear the book asks a lot of thought provoking questions about this present day Nigerian youth.

Judging from the statements in the pictures ahead, my answer is that we are not the turning point generation.
The screenshots are some of the comments on the post about the banker who stole the money left in the bank account of the Emir of Kano.

We are not the ones to save Nigeria from the mess created by our parents.

I mean a generation which is craving for change, which everyday shouts and curse the present day government for its corruption would not write the above statements.

All I see are people who are justifying fraud which is one of the many forms of corruption. How can anyone call a fraudster, 'an innocent fraudster'. Some are even canvassing for the freedom of a thief.

One thing I hate about this generation of ours is our double standards...we want to kill the people in government who we accuse of stealing our money everyday, we burn to death those who rob the poor, yet we would clap and rub the head of the poor in as much as they steal from the rich only.

We definitely are not the generation to move Nigeria forward because we are just like our parents.
The Canker worm of corruption has eaten deep into our souls...right now we are the bane of the nation.

All I can say is God save Nigeria, and may be the generation coming after us can actually save the nation we can ours.

  1. Powerful thoughts! I hope that one day when I talk of my homeland, it will not provoke questions and comments of corruption from the listeners from there or who live elsewhere. I don't know how to make it happen, but hopefully it happens in our lifetimes!

'One thing I hate about this generation of ours is our double standards...we want to kill the people in government who we accuse of stealing our money everyday, we burn to death those who rob the poor, yet we would clap and rub the head of the poor in as much as they steal from the rich only.' GBAM! GBAMMER! GBAMMEST!

When wealth is displayed and respected in the media, church, family, relationships and nobody asks how these wealth were made, the result is the above-comments!
You now see why ritual killings, kidnapping, fraud and armed robbery is always on the increase?

  3. Hmmm. Thanks, Lara.

This is really thought provoking. You need no seer to tell you how this generation would handle wealth or power if and when given the chance with this mindset cum orientation.

  4. I don't even understand. Innocent fraudster?? Really. See Oxymoron at it's most annoying.

If we can't even reason right, how are we supposed to change Nigeria?

  6. I would like to think that the innocent fraudster comment was sarcasm. Let's leave it at that

I have often had this argument with members of my family particularly those in diaspora. We are not the change-making generation they wish us to be. Never in the history of Nigeria have we had such an entitled, lazy and corrupt generation. In the process of parents wanting their kids to have a different and better life than they had, kids were pampered, some ccould not be disciplined even at school and on and on. We are a product of the steady decline of morals, manners and hard work. Yet these same parents hope their over pampered, entitled and lazy offspring would be the one to force a change. But you can't give what you don't have. Sorry for the epistle. Very sore point for me.I had high hopes for my generation. Alas...it wasn't to be

  8. Most of the youths in our generation have damaged moral compasses handed down to them from their parents....... standards have fallen.............our generation lacks the altruistic characteristics of a patriot.........only a patriot can dream, think and act for the good of his/her country
